BIK - check your credit score and history in Poland
The Credit Information Bureau (Biuro Informacji Kredytowej) collects data on all loans in Poland. Banks check BIK before granting any credit. We'll show you how to check it, how much it costs, and how to improve your score.
What is BIK?
BIK (Biuro Informacji Kredytowej) is the institution to which every bank, SKOK and lending company in Poland reports data on their clients' credit: when it was taken, how much, whether instalments are paid on time.
Your BIK history is your credit reputation. Before a bank approves your loan, mortgage or even a credit card limit, it first checks your BIK Report and your scoring.
Good news: everyone has the right to get a free copy of their BIK data once every 6 months. And Ukrainian citizens with a PESEL number can get the full BIK Package for 0 PLN.
What's inside a BIK Report
- Full history of loans and credit - both active and repaid
- Information about late payments (any delay over 30 days)
- BIK scoring with an explanation of what affects your number
- Credit inquiries - who asked about your data in the last 12 months
- Buy Now Pay Later purchases (BNPL - e.g. PayPo, Allegro Pay, Klarna)

BIK scoring
BIK scores your creditworthiness on a 192-631 point scale. The higher, the more likely a bank will approve your loan. The average score in Poland is 528.8 pts (4 stars).
Some older reports also show a 0-100 scale. Both scales are equivalent - same scoring, different format.
How to check your BIK Report - step by step
1. Create an account on bik.pl
Go to bik.pl and click "Zaloz konto". You'll need: PESEL number and a Polish ID (dowod, passport or residence card).
2. Verify your identity
Fastest way - mObywatel app (if you have a Polish ID). Alternative: a 1 PLN identification transfer from your own bank account. Your name on the transfer must match the form.
3. Order your Report
Once your account is active, choose "Pobierz Raport BIK". The report is generated immediately after payment and stays in your account for 2 years.

How to improve your BIK score
Pay every instalment on time
By far the most important factor. Every on-time payment raises your score; every delay over 30 days lowers it.
Don't max out your credit card
Keep utilization below 30% of your approved limit. A card used 90% looks worse to a bank than one used 20%.
Don't submit many applications at once
Every credit inquiry shows up in BIK. Five applications in one week = a "desperate" signal to banks. Wait at least 3 months between applications.
Check your report for errors
Sometimes a bank forgets to update a closed loan. Correcting an error can boost your score by tens of points.
Remember the 5-year window
Negative entries (delays over 60 days) stay in BIK for 5 years after repayment. Positive entries - indefinitely, if you've given consent.
BIK Alerts - fraud protection
BIK Alerts is an SMS you get whenever someone tries to take out a loan in your name, or when your PESEL appears in a data leak on the dark web. Cost: 48 PLN / year on its own, 0 PLN inside the BIK Package. One of the cheapest identity protection tools in Poland.

Can I check my BIK for free?
Yes. Once every 6 months you have the right to download a Free Data Copy from BIK at 0 PLN. It contains the list of your loans but not the BIK scoring. The full BIK Report with scoring starts at 49 PLN. Ukrainian citizens with PESEL can get the entire BIK Package for 0 PLN β just call 22 348 44 44.
How long do negative entries stay in BIK?
Negative entries (delays over 60 days) stay in BIK for 5 years from the date of full repayment. Positive entries (loans paid on time) β indefinitely if you have given consent. Positive history is an asset, so it is worth keeping.
Can a Ukrainian citizen check their BIK?
Yes, provided they have a PESEL number and a Polish ID (dowod, passport or residence card). What is more β BIK offers Ukrainian citizens the full BIK Package at 0 PLN (normally 139 PLN / year), regardless of how long they have been in Poland. Create an account on bik.pl and call 22 348 44 44 for the discount code.
What is BIK scoring?
BIK scoring is a point-based assessment of your creditworthiness on a 192β631 scale (5 stars). The Polish average is 528.8 pts (4 stars). The higher your score, the better the loan terms banks will offer you. The score depends primarily on payment punctuality β that is the strongest factor.
What is the difference between BIK Report and BIK Alerts?
BIK Report is a one-off document (PDF/HTML) with your full credit history and scoring β you download it when you want to check your situation. BIK Alerts is a yearly monitoring service β you get an SMS each time someone queries your data in BIK or your PESEL appears in a data leak. The best value is the BIK Package (139 PLN / year) β both included.
Kodenix Capital is not BIK and is not affiliated with BIK. We link to the official bik.pl website. All reports are downloaded directly from BIK after creating an account.
